The East Coast Cheater Pow Ski

The Hannibal has been my favorite ski in Fischer's backcountry lineup because it performs well in most conditions - it's not too wide for classic East Coast conditions (FIRM), but wide enough to give some float in powder. If you can only have one ski this is generally where I point customers. It's a bit of a tossup with the Transalp 90 Carbon but it depends on how you want to use the ski. If you need a wider platform then I'd recommend this with the ATK Raider 12, ATK Free Raider 14, or Dynafit Rotation binding. New for this version of the Hannibal is the Carbon Tex layer which adds diagonal carbon fiber to the previous vertical carbon stringers. This provides torsional stiffness without overdoing it. Flex in a backcountry ski is good, just not floppy. The second change is slightly more superficial - the matte topsheet. The glossy topsheets of older models showed wear more quickly, and the matte construction, carried over from the Transalp lineup, seems to be more durable.
